Camera 101: Let’s Figure Out What All Those Buttons Do

January 13, 2027 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

You bought the camera. You took it out of the box. You looked at all the buttons and thought, “Okay… now what?”

Don’t worry. We’ve all been there.

Camera 101 is an online mentoring session presented by Shawn Wyrozub, designed specifically for photographers who are just getting started—or for anyone who missed last year’s session and would like a refresher.

We’ll cover the basics of cameras, essential settings, and just enough photography knowledge to get you started on your journey without overwhelming you with a mountain of technical information. We’ll talk about what those mysterious numbers and letters on your camera actually mean, which settings you should worry about right now, and which ones can wait until you’re ready.

And because this is SPC, there will also be a few jokes, probably at the expense of photography terminology. Learning should be fun!

Whether you’re holding your first interchangeable-lens camera or you’ve had one sitting in the closet for a while waiting for the courage to figure it out, you’re welcome here. There are no silly questions, no photography snobbery, and absolutely no requirement to know what aperture means before we start.

The goal is simple: give you enough knowledge and confidence to pick up your camera, start experimenting, and begin your photography journey.

The session will be held via Zoom and is open exclusively to current members of the Sackville Photography Club.

Bring your camera if you have one, bring your questions, and bring your sense of humour. We’ll figure out the rest together.
