SPC Meeting – January 6th 2027

Let’s start 2027 by getting close… like really REALLY uncomfortably close.

No, not that close. We’re talking macro photography!

For our first meeting of 2027, photographer James Smeaton will take us into the fascinating world of photographing the tiny details that are usually hiding in plain sight. Bugs, flowers, textures, everyday objects… suddenly the little things become very big deals.

Based in Antigonish, James has been behind the camera for more than 17 years. What started with a Kodak DC290 and a curiosity about photography grew into a passion for creating compelling images. Today, James works across landscape, portrait, wedding, commercial, drone and macro photography, with much of his work inspired by the people, places and landscapes of northeastern Nova Scotia.

Whether you already love macro photography or you’ve never intentionally photographed anything smaller than your lunch, this evening is for you. James will share his experience, creative approach, and tips for seeing—and photographing—the details we often walk right past.

So bring your curiosity, your questions, and your enthusiasm for getting way too close to things. You might leave seeing the world a little differently… just don’t blame us when you start inspecting your houseplants for photographic potential.
