SPC Meeting – January 20th 2027

Let’s be honest. Photographers are not always known for planning ahead.

“The light will probably be good.”
“I’m sure the moon will be somewhere around here.”
“We drove three hours… surely there’s something to photograph.”

Well… there’s an app for that.

At our January 20th meeting, our very own Mark and Marsha will introduce us to PhotoPills—a powerful photography planning app that can help take some of the guesswork, crossed fingers, and questionable decisions out of getting the shot.

They’ll walk us through what PhotoPills is, how to use it, when to use it, why you should use it, and—perhaps most importantly—who should use it. Whether you photograph landscapes, astrophotography, sunrises, sunsets, the moon, architecture, or just want to know where the heck the sun is going to be before you leave the house, PhotoPills has something for you.

Never used it before? Perfect! Opened it once, stared at the screen and thought “Well, this looks complicated” before closing it again? Also perfect. Mark and Marsha will break it down and show us how those maps, numbers, lines, arrows and mysterious-looking symbols can actually help us plan better photographs.

Because there’s nothing quite like driving somewhere at 4:00 AM, standing in the dark, setting up your tripod, waiting patiently for the perfect moment… only to discover the Milky Way is behind you.

Come with your questions, your curiosity, and your phone. You can leave the camera at home—we’re planning the photograph before we take it.
