Mentoring Magic: Learn, Shoot, Repeat!

Ready to level up your photography game? Or maybe you’re just wondering what all those buttons on your camera actually do? Welcome to Mentoring Sessions at the Sackville Photography Club—a relaxed, fun, and beginner-friendly way to learn photography in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

These sessions are casual, low-pressure, and full of “aha!” moments. Think of them as photography meetups with a side of mentorship. Whether you’re a beginner photographer just starting out, or someone looking to master a specific skill like portrait lighting or shooting in manual mode, you’ll find plenty of help here. Our experienced members love to share their knowledge, tips, tricks, and even a few embarrassing stories from when they thought ISO 6400 was a camera model.

It’s not a formal class, and there are no pop quizzes—unless you count “What shutter speed would YOU use?” as a quiz. Mentoring Sessions are all about hands-on learning and real conversations. Want to learn how to shoot stars? Capture wildlife? Edit like a pro? Just ask. Chances are, someone here has done it—and they’re more than happy to help you avoid the mistakes they made.

These events are supportive, welcoming, and inspiring. No egos. No judgment. Just a group of passionate photographers who love talking about gear, lighting, editing, and chasing that perfect shot. We’re all here to grow, learn, and laugh together (often at ourselves).

So bring your questions, your curiosity, and maybe even your tripod. Whether you shoot with a phone, DSLR, or mirrorless camera, there’s always something new to learn. Join a mentoring session and discover why we’re one of the most welcoming and educational photography clubs in Nova Scotia.

Let’s grow together—one frame at a time.

“What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce.”
Karl Lagerfeld
