DESCRIPTION:We’re thrilled to welcome TJ Maguire to the Sackville Photography Club as our guest speaker on February 4\, 2026\, where he’ll be sharing his passion and insights into Street and Urban Photography. \nBorn in Halifax and shaped by the rugged beauty of Indian Harbour\, TJ’s journey into photography began through an unexpected lens—urban planning and design. With a deep-rooted appreciation for both natural and built environments\, TJ has spent his career exploring how people interact with the spaces around them. His travels for urban design studies have taken him from Nova Scotia to Finland\, Jordan\, and Syria—each experience adding depth to his creative eye. \nAlong the way\, TJ was inspired by Finnish wildlife photographer Raimo Sundelin and Indian Harbour resident Roger Morin\, who encouraged him to pick up an SLR camera and dive into the world of photography. He’s also trained under world-renowned photographer Bryan Peterson\, joining workshops in Peggy’s Cove and Paris. \nToday\, TJ lives and works in Halifax as a professional Urban Designer\, but through his camera lens\, he continues to capture the intersection of people\, place\, and story. DESCRIPTION:Ever looked at your camera and thought\, “I know it can do more… I just don’t know how yet”? \nWe’re excited to announce a Cameras 101 mentoring session for the Sackville Photography Club — designed especially for beginners and those who want to feel more confident using their camera beyond Auto. \nIn this virtual session\, I’ll walk through: \n\n\nWhat all those buttons and dials actually do \n\n\nCore camera settings (without the jargon) \n\n\nHow Auto\, Aperture\, Shutter\, and Manual modes really work \n\n\nHow to start taking creative control at your own pace \n\n\nIt doesn’t matter what brand or type of camera you use — DSLR\, mirrorless\, or even something you’ve had sitting in a bag for years. If it takes photos\, it’s welcome. \nAfter the online session\, we’ll also plan an in-person get-together to put what we learned into practice\, ask questions\, and experiment in a relaxed\, supportive setting. \nThis is a safe space to learn\, ask “basic” questions\, and finally make sense of your camera. \nYou can RSVP at president@sackvillephotoclub.com \nThis mentoring session is open to all current members of the Sackville Photography Club.
