SUMMARY:Lens & Learn — A Friendly Photo Critique Session
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder what someone else sees when they look at your photograph? \nLens & Learn is a relaxed\, friendly\, and educational virtual session where we come together to look at photographs\, share ideas\, and learn from one another. \nSPC members can submit jpeg images ahead of the session.  During the session\, we’ll look at the images together and offer friendly\, constructive feedback designed to help us understand what works\, what might be improved\, and why. \nThere are no bad photographs and no wrong answers. Photography is subjective\, and the goal isn’t to judge the photographer or tell someone that their photograph is “wrong.” Instead\, we’ll explore different ways of seeing an image\, discuss creative choices\, and share suggestions that may help you approach your next photograph differently. \nSubmissions will be presented anonymously\, so the focus stays on the photograph rather than who took it. \nWhether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or you’ve been photographing for decades\, Lens & Learn is for everyone. You don’t need to be an expert\, and you don’t need to have a “perfect” photograph to participate. \nCome ready to share\, learn\, ask questions\, and—most importantly—help each other grow as photographers. \nSubmit your images to: mentoring@sackvillephotoclub.com \nLens & Learn is a members-only SPC program\, available to current Sackville Photography Club members. This helps us create a comfortable space where members can share their work\, ask questions\, and learn from one another in a familiar and supportive environment. If you’re not currently a member but would like to take part\, we’d love to have you join the club and become part of the SPC community!

SUMMARY:Lightroom 101
DESCRIPTION:Think Lightroom is complicated? Let’s fix that. \nJoin SPC President Shawn Wyrozub for a fun\, relaxed virtual mentoring session designed specifically for photographers who are new to Adobe Lightroom Classic—or who have opened it\, stared at it for five minutes\, and wondered\, “Okay… now what?” \nIn Lightroom 101\, Shawn will walk you through the basics of Lightroom Classic from the ground up. We’ll start with getting Lightroom set up properly\, then work our way through importing and organizing your photos\, the basics of editing\, and finally exporting your finished images. \nWe’ll cover things like: \n\nSetting up Lightroom Classic\nUnderstanding the Lightroom interface without needing a map\nImporting and organizing your photographs\nThe basics of Lightroom’s editing tools\nExposure\, contrast\, colour and other essential adjustments\nCropping and straightening\nMaking your photos look better without making them look weird\nExporting your finished images for sharing\, printing and more\n\nThis isn’t about turning you into a Lightroom wizard overnight. It’s about helping you understand what the tools do\, why you might use them\, and how to build a simple editing workflow that works for you. \nThere will be plenty of room for questions\, so bring your Lightroom questions\, your curiosity\, and maybe a photograph or two that you’ve been fighting with. Shawn promises not to judge your editing choices… much. \nAnd remember: there are no stupid questions. If Lightroom has you confused\, chances are someone else is wondering the exact same thing. \nSo grab your computer\, fire up Lightroom\, and let’s get those sliders moving in the right direction. \nThis virtual mentoring session is open to current members of the Sackville Photography Club.

SUMMARY:SPC Meeting October 21st 2026
DESCRIPTION:Who says you need a big camera and a bag full of lenses to make great photographs? Sometimes\, the best camera is the one flying through the air… or the one sitting in your pocket! \nFor our next SPC general meeting\, our very own Vice President\, Mark Klaamas\, will be taking us on a look at photography with drones and camera phones. Mark will share his experience and ideas for getting creative with two tools that have become surprisingly capable photography platforms. \nWhether you’re already a drone photographer\, someone who pulls out their phone whenever the moment presents itself\, or you’re just curious about what these little cameras can actually do\, this should be a fun and informative evening. We’ll look at different ways to approach photography from a new perspective — quite literally in the case of drones! \nSo come out\, bring your questions\, share your own experiences\, and maybe discover that you don’t always need to carry a camera bag the size of a small suitcase to make a great image. \nThis meeting is open to members of the Sackville Photography Club. If you’re not a member but would like to join us as a guest and see what we’re all about\, we’d love to have you! Just email membership@sackvillephotoclub.com and ask about being our guest for the evening. \nCome for the drones\, stay for the smartphone photography… and leave with a few new ways to get your camera off the ground!

SUMMARY:SPC Meeting - Nov 4th 2026
DESCRIPTION:What happens when you stop trying to capture a landscape exactly as you see it? \nFor our next SPC general meeting\, we’re excited to welcome Nicholas Bent\, a Canadian contemporary fine art photographer with an incredible 40-year career behind the camera. Nicholas is best known for his haunting and ethereal landscape and tree photography\, using intentional camera movement (ICM) and distortion to transform familiar scenes into impressionistic and abstract works of art. \nThis is a chance to step outside the usual rules of photography and look at landscapes in a completely different way. Instead of worrying about keeping everything perfectly sharp and perfectly still\, Nicholas explores movement\, abstraction\, mood\, and emotion to create images that feel almost dreamlike. \nWhether you’ve experimented with ICM before or the idea of deliberately moving your camera while taking a photograph sounds completely wrong\, this should be a fascinating evening. Come with an open mind\, bring your questions\, and be prepared to see what happens when blur isn’t a mistake — it’s the point. \nYou may even leave the meeting looking at the trees around you a little differently. Just try not to explain to anyone why you’re suddenly waving your camera around while taking pictures. They already think photographers are weird enough. \nThis meeting is open to members of the Sackville Photography Club. If you’re not a member but would like to join us as a guest and see what we’re all about\, we’d love to have you! Just email membership@sackvillephotoclub.com and ask about being our guest for the evening. \nPhoto Credit: Nicholas Bent

SUMMARY:SPC Meeting - Nov 18th 2026
DESCRIPTION:What if your next great editing teacher was already sitting at your computer? \nFor our next SPC general meeting\, David Adamson and Shawn Wyrozub will be teaming up to take a look at how Artificial Intelligence — specifically ChatGPT — can help photographers edit their images and\, perhaps more importantly\, learn how to edit them better. \nThis isn’t about pressing a magic button and letting AI do all the work for you. Instead\, we’ll explore how you can use ChatGPT as a photography and editing assistant — helping you understand why an image may not be working\, what you could try differently\, and how to develop a better eye for your own editing. \nWe’ll walk through real examples\, demonstrate how to communicate with AI about your images\, and show how a conversation with ChatGPT can help you work through everything from exposure and colour to contrast\, composition\, mood\, and the overall look you’re trying to achieve. \nWhether you’re brand new to editing\, constantly wondering “Why does this image still look wrong?”\, or you’ve been editing for years and are curious about where AI fits into the process\, there should be something here for you. \nAnd don’t worry — AI isn’t here to steal your camera. At least not yet. \nCome with an image\, come with questions\, or simply come along to see what all the fuss is about. You might just discover that learning to edit doesn’t have to mean figuring everything out by yourself. \nThis meeting is open to members of the Sackville Photography Club. If you’re not a member but would like to join us as a guest and see what we’re all about\, we’d love to have you! Just email membership@sackvillephotoclub.com and ask about being our guest for the evening.

SUMMARY:SPC Meeting - December 2nd 2026
DESCRIPTION:A landscape isn’t just a place. It’s a way of seeing. \nFor our next meeting\, we’re pleased to welcome Richard Robesco\, a visual artist whose work spans photography and painting\, creating images that range from realistic landscapes to highly stylized and abstract interpretations. \nRichard’s approach to photography goes beyond simply capturing what’s in front of the camera. His work combines classical visual traditions with contemporary ideas\, with a strong focus on both content and form. His photographs invite us to look more closely at the world around us—and to think about what we’re actually trying to say when we make an image. \nWhile landscape photography is one of his areas of focus\, Richard’s subject matter is anything but limited. His work includes landscapes\, street scenes\, portraits\, still life and transposed images\, often exploring minimalist\, monochrome\, peaceful and contemplative styles. He’s also not afraid to experiment\, allowing the photograph to become something more than a literal representation of the scene. \nDuring this presentation\, Richard will share his approach to landscape photography and the creative process behind his work. We’ll explore how composition\, light\, simplicity\, perspective and artistic intent can change the way we experience a landscape—and how we can move beyond simply asking “Is this a good photograph?” to asking “What am I trying to say with this photograph?” \nInspired by contemporary artists including German painter Gerhard Richter and Düsseldorf School photographer Andreas Gursky\, Richard brings an artistic perspective that challenges us to look at familiar subjects in unfamiliar ways. \nRichard has exhibited extensively through solo and group exhibitions across Canada and is a regular exhibitor at the annual Contact Photography Festival in Toronto. His work has also been featured in books\, print publications and online magazines. \nWhether you’re an experienced landscape photographer or someone who simply enjoys pointing a camera at a really nice view\, this promises to be an evening of inspiration\, creativity and perhaps a few new ways of looking at the world through your lens. \n\nThis meeting is open to members of the Sackville Photography Club. If you’re not a member but would like to join us as a guest and see what we’re all about\, we’d love to have you! Just email membership@sackvillephotoclub.com and ask about being our guest for the evening. \nCome for the landscapes. Stay for the ideas. And leave seeing your next photograph a little differently.

SUMMARY:Lightroom 201
DESCRIPTION:Ready to take your Lightroom editing to the next level? \nYou survived Lightroom 101. You found the Develop module\, moved a few sliders around\, and—hopefully—didn’t accidentally turn your photo into something that belongs on the cover of a 1980s heavy metal album. \nNow it’s time to get a little more powerful. \nJoin SPC President Shawn Wyrozub for Lightroom 201\, a virtual mentoring session focused on one of the most useful tools in Lightroom Classic: Masking. \nMasking gives you the ability to make targeted adjustments to specific parts of your photograph instead of changing the entire image. Want to brighten your subject without blowing out the sky? Darken the background? Bring out detail in the clouds? Make a face stand out? Fix a distracting area without affecting everything around it? \nThat’s where masking comes in. \nDuring this session\, we’ll dive into: \n\nUnderstanding what masking actually does\nSubject and Sky masks\nSelecting people and specific parts of a person\nBrush masks\nLinear and Radial Gradients\nColour and Luminance Range masks\nAdding and subtracting from masks\nCombining different masking tools\nRefining masks for more precise adjustments\nUsing masks to direct the viewer’s eye\nReal-world examples of how masking can transform an image\n\nWe’ll focus on why and when you’d use each tool\, not just where to find the buttons. The goal is to help you start looking at your photographs differently and recognize opportunities where a targeted adjustment can make a good image even better. \nAnd don’t worry if the word masking makes Lightroom sound like we’re about to perform some sort of photographic magic ritual. By the end of the session\, you’ll understand what you’re doing—and\, more importantly\, why you’re doing it. \nSo bring your questions\, bring a few images to experiment with\, and let’s get masking. \nThis virtual mentoring session is open to current members of the Sackville Photography Club.
