SUMMARY:Lens & Learn — A Friendly Photo Review Session
DESCRIPTION:Ever wonder what someone else sees when they look at your photograph? \nLens & Learn is a relaxed\, friendly\, and educational virtual session where we come together to look at photographs\, share ideas\, and learn from one another. \nSPC members can submit jpeg images ahead of the session.  During the session\, we’ll look at the images together and offer friendly\, constructive feedback designed to help us understand what works\, what might be improved\, and why. \nThere are no bad photographs and no wrong answers. Photography is subjective\, and the goal isn’t to judge the photographer or tell someone that their photograph is “wrong.” Instead\, we’ll explore different ways of seeing an image\, discuss creative choices\, and share suggestions that may help you approach your next photograph differently. \nSubmissions will be presented anonymously\, so the focus stays on the photograph rather than who took it. \nWhether you’re picking up a camera for the first time or you’ve been photographing for decades\, Lens & Learn is for everyone. You don’t need to be an expert\, and you don’t need to have a “perfect” photograph to participate. \nCome ready to share\, learn\, ask questions\, and—most importantly—help each other grow as photographers. \nSubmit your images to: mentoring@sackvillephotoclub.com \nLens & Learn is a members-only SPC program\, available to current Sackville Photography Club members. This helps us create a comfortable space where members can share their work\, ask questions\, and learn from one another in a familiar and supportive environment. If you’re not currently a member but would like to take part\, we’d love to have you join the club and become part of the SPC community!

SUMMARY:Lightroom 201
DESCRIPTION:Ready to take your Lightroom editing to the next level? \nYou survived Lightroom 101. You found the Develop module\, moved a few sliders around\, and—hopefully—didn’t accidentally turn your photo into something that belongs on the cover of a 1980s heavy metal album. \nNow it’s time to get a little more powerful. \nJoin SPC President Shawn Wyrozub for Lightroom 201\, a virtual mentoring session focused on one of the most useful tools in Lightroom Classic: Masking. \nMasking gives you the ability to make targeted adjustments to specific parts of your photograph instead of changing the entire image. Want to brighten your subject without blowing out the sky? Darken the background? Bring out detail in the clouds? Make a face stand out? Fix a distracting area without affecting everything around it? \nThat’s where masking comes in. \nDuring this session\, we’ll dive into: \n\nUnderstanding what masking actually does\nSubject and Sky masks\nSelecting people and specific parts of a person\nBrush masks\nLinear and Radial Gradients\nColour and Luminance Range masks\nAdding and subtracting from masks\nCombining different masking tools\nRefining masks for more precise adjustments\nUsing masks to direct the viewer’s eye\nReal-world examples of how masking can transform an image\n\nWe’ll focus on why and when you’d use each tool\, not just where to find the buttons. The goal is to help you start looking at your photographs differently and recognize opportunities where a targeted adjustment can make a good image even better. \nAnd don’t worry if the word masking makes Lightroom sound like we’re about to perform some sort of photographic magic ritual. By the end of the session\, you’ll understand what you’re doing—and\, more importantly\, why you’re doing it. \nSo bring your questions\, bring a few images to experiment with\, and let’s get masking. \nThis virtual mentoring session is open to current members of the Sackville Photography Club.

SUMMARY:Camera 101: Let’s Figure Out What All Those Buttons Do
DESCRIPTION:You bought the camera. You took it out of the box. You looked at all the buttons and thought\, “Okay… now what?” \nDon’t worry. We’ve all been there. \nCamera 101 is an online mentoring session presented by Shawn Wyrozub\, designed specifically for photographers who are just getting started—or for anyone who missed last year’s session and would like a refresher. \nWe’ll cover the basics of cameras\, essential settings\, and just enough photography knowledge to get you started on your journey without overwhelming you with a mountain of technical information. We’ll talk about what those mysterious numbers and letters on your camera actually mean\, which settings you should worry about right now\, and which ones can wait until you’re ready. \nAnd because this is SPC\, there will also be a few jokes\, probably at the expense of photography terminology. Learning should be fun! \nWhether you’re holding your first interchangeable-lens camera or you’ve had one sitting in the closet for a while waiting for the courage to figure it out\, you’re welcome here. There are no silly questions\, no photography snobbery\, and absolutely no requirement to know what aperture means before we start. \nThe goal is simple: give you enough knowledge and confidence to pick up your camera\, start experimenting\, and begin your photography journey. \nThe session will be held via Zoom and is open exclusively to current members of the Sackville Photography Club. \nBring your camera if you have one\, bring your questions\, and bring your sense of humour. We’ll figure out the rest together.

SUMMARY:Lens 101: Because Glass Shouldn’t Be This Confusing
DESCRIPTION:Online Mentoring Session · Via Zoom \nYou know what a camera does. You know where the shutter button is. You’ve even figured out that the big round thing on the front is important. \nBut then someone asks\, “What lens are you using?” \nAnd suddenly there are numbers\, letters\, mounts\, focal lengths\, apertures\, f-stops and enough abbreviations to make your eyes cross. \nWelcome to Lens 101! \nIn this online mentoring session\, we’ll take a beginner-friendly look at the wonderful—and occasionally confusing—world of camera lenses. We’ll cover the basics of focal length\, aperture\, f-stops\, lens mounts\, zoom vs. prime lenses\, and what all those numbers and letters actually mean. \nEver wondered what an f-stop actually is? Or what E-Mount means? Not sure whether you need a 35mm\, 50mm\, 85mm\, 24-70mm or 70-200mm? And why does every photographer seem to own a 24-70mm anyway? \nWe’ll tackle those questions and more\, including which lens to use for different types of photography and how your choice of lens can change the look and feel of your photographs. \nThis session is designed for beginners\, so you don’t need to know your f/2.8 from your f/22. In fact\, if you currently look at lens specifications and think “Yep… those are definitely numbers\,” you’re exactly where you need to be. \nAnd yes\, there will be a few jokes. Because apparently we can’t discuss lenses without talking about f-stops\, focal points and getting a little too close. \nThe goal isn’t to turn you into an optical engineer. It’s simply to give you enough knowledge to understand your lenses\, make better choices\, and feel more confident when deciding what glass to put on your camera. \nThe session will be held via Zoom and is open exclusively to current members of the Sackville Photography Club. \nBring your questions\, bring your camera and lenses if you have them\, and come ready to learn. \nWe’ll keep things focused. Mostly.

SUMMARY:Metadata 101: Wait… My Photos Have a Résumé?
DESCRIPTION:Online Mentoring Session · Via Zoom \nYou took the photo. You edited the photo. You exported the photo. \nBut did you know your photo has been quietly carrying around a whole bunch of information about itself the entire time? \nWelcome to Metadata 101! \nIn this beginner-friendly online mentoring session\, we’ll take a look at the mysterious world of photo metadata and explain what all those fields\, numbers and acronyms actually mean. \nEver wondered “What in the world is EXIF data?” Or why your camera seems to know exactly what lens you used\, what shutter speed you chose and precisely when you pressed the button? \nWe’ll talk about EXIF data\, IPTC metadata\, copyright information\, titles\, captions\, descriptions and keywords—including the eternal question: \n“How many keywords is too many keywords?” \nAnd just when you think you’ve got it figured out… \n“Wait… how many fields are there?” \nWe’ll also look at why metadata matters\, what information you should consider adding to your photographs\, how metadata can help organize and find your images\, and how it can be useful when sharing or publishing your work. \nThis session is designed for beginners\, so don’t worry if you’ve never opened the metadata panel in Lightroom and thought\, “I’m going to pretend I didn’t see that.” We’ll take it one piece at a time and make the whole thing a lot less intimidating. \nThere may even be a few moments where you discover your camera has been keeping better records than you have. \nThe goal is simple: understand what metadata is\, know what information is useful\, and learn how to use it without developing a sudden urge to throw your computer out the window. \nThe session will be held via Zoom and is open exclusively to current members of the Sackville Photography Club. \nBring your questions\, bring your curiosity\, and bring your photographs. Your photos already have a story. Metadata just helps them remember the details.

If you’re not currently a member but would like to take part\, we’d love to have you join the club and become part of the SPC community!
